Description

Range

During migration and in winter occurs on the lowlands of Uzbekisan, including the Kyzylkum desert, Karnabchul and Golodnaya steppes and the Aydar-Arnasay lake system area.

Biology

Specialists’ opinions concerning the White-winged Lark’s breeding in Uzbekistan diverge: according to E. A. Kreuzberg, it breeds in the north of the country, while Ye. N. Lanovenko refers it to non-breeding species. There is very little information on the wintering ecology. With several dozen individuals observed daily during mass migration, the White-winged Lark does not seem a rare migrant. Usually concentrates in flocks on snow-covered flatlands; avoids grass thickets and cultivated areas. Feeds on the seeds of saltwort and wormwood.
